Reconnecting Plymouth: Architecture Through Participation

Welcome to Reconnecting Plymouth, a personal project showcasing architectural design with a unique approach. A welcoming space where older adults, veterans and students meet, make and grow together. Set in the heart of the University of Plymouth campus, the Hub reduces loneliness by offering hands-on workshops, shared gardening, food redistribution and quiet wellbeing activities in a soft, timber-led environment.

Information

This project is a campus-based wellbeing hub designed to reduce loneliness by encouraging meaningful interaction between older adults, veterans and students. Through shared activities such as making, gardening and food redistribution, the Hub supports routine, confidence and a sense of belonging. Its open, timber-led design creates a calm and inclusive environment within the busy university setting.

About The Project

I have created a welcoming wellbeing hub on the University of Plymouth campus that brings older adults, veterans, students and staff together through shared activity. Our focus is on reducing loneliness by encouraging meaningful participation in making, gardening, food redistribution and small group wellbeing sessions. Rather than separating people into helpers and those being helped, we believe everyone has something valuable to contribute.

The Hub is designed to feel open, calm and approachable, offering a mix of active and quiet spaces where people can take part at their own pace. Rooted in craft, community and everyday routines, we aim to create a place where connection grows naturally, and people feel comfortable returning, spending time and building relationships.

Design brought to life

Through small acts of making and sharing food, the space comes alive with connection.
